Case of the Week (week 41, 2023)

Screening on dense breasts (density C) in 2020.

A spiculated mass of 1.5 cm diameter and an associated distorsion are detected in the upper outer left breast, situated 7-8 cm from the nipple.

Additional exams are recommended: another mammography, spot compression tomosynthesis and ultrasound.

The biopsy confirmed an invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).

When looking retrospectively at this case, this spiculated mass was already present 6 years before. On the 2014 mammogram, MammoScreen gave a score of 8, highest suspicion, alerting on the potential malignancy of this lesion.

The use of MammoScreen could have helped detect the cancer earlier.
