Case of the Week (week 39, 2023)

Screening mammogram on dense breasts (D) in 2020.

The prior screening exams are benign.

Here, a lobulated asymmetry of 6.5 mm in diameter without associated calcifications is detected on the right breast, 9 cm from the nipple.

Another mammo and ultrasound confirm the presence of the lesion at 9.30.

The biopsy reveals the presence of an invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).

When looking at the prior mammogram of 2019, with using MammoScreen retrospectively in this case, it appears that the AI detected the lesion on both views (CC and MLO). MammoScreen gives a score of 8, indicating a high suspicion, and alerting about the potential malignancy of this case.
