Case of the Week (week 51, 2024)

During a screening mammogram, a suspicious lesion on the right breast, invisible on 2D images, was detected by the tomosynthesis slices.

MammoScreen also detected this suspicious lesion on Slice 14 of the tomosynthesis, with a score of 9, confirming the suspicion.

In this particular case, tomosynthesis has played a crucial role in revealing both to the radiologist but also to AI a tumor lesion that could otherwise have passed unnoticed.

The reading of tomosynthesis by AI therefore increases the sensitivity of screening of

cancers versus AI applied to 2D images, as well as sensitivity increased radiologist through tomosynthesis.

In conclusion, this case demonstrates that the combination of tomosynthesis and a

artificial intelligence, such as MammoScreen, makes it possible to avoid missing cases of cancer during screening.
